In Wittgenstein’s view if you cannot describe something in words, it doesn’t exist.
Although it is true that sometimes we cannot find words to express what we are feeling or experiencing, all in all, language is the means by which we tend to communicate with others.
To me -a language lover and an avid traveller- being able to communicate with people in their native language or a shared one has opened up lots of doors. To begin with, a language is not only a set of words, expressions and combined structure. It couldn’t exist if there wasn’t a culture that supports it. And getting in contact with it first hand, I mean without other people’s interpretation, has always given me the impression I was getting closer to those I got to know. Their experiences. Their places. Their history. And I can assure you, it’s truly valuable!!
